Yes, we as supposed grown-ups owe the kids our best efforts at that. It is a constant struggle to remain hopeful, and well-informed without being overwhelmed by the suffering that is so widespread. Balance would be the operative word.
"There are those who love to dig into the past, dwelling on - who was entitled to the land thousands of years ago, or the specific origins of the first stone thrown."
True Mark, either side can pick a point in history to make their case. I must say though that it has been nothing short of horrifying to see the blatant rise of antisemitism being demonstrated around the world right now. Have we learned nothing from history?
So true Jim. Antisemitism is worldwide and may be stronger than ever in the US which is indeed tragic. I in no way want to add to that. The Israelis and Jews everywhere have suffered enough prejudice. My hope is that the US would support the emasculation of Hamas and then at least attempt to move toward a sustainable two state solution where both sides can eventually live without fear and hatred. "You may say I'm a dreamer . . ."
I don’t know the source of what I’m guessing is an ancient proverb:
“If it is revenge you seek, remember to dig two graves.”
Thanks Steve, those ancients were indeed - SO WISE!
We have to hope. Sometimes it is all we have. So many children dying right now, we owe those who survive a future that knows peace.
