There are two other groups of people as they age. Those that appreciate their long life and choose optimism and assume goodwill; and those that are embittered by life. I wonder if there are connections between these two groups and the two you identified here.
Very interesting observation - I would tentatively agree with your comment about those that appreciate their long life and choose optimism. I think they usually fit into the group that expands. Gratitude and embittered are close to opposites
Those who make little effort to understand or address the needs of folks outside their "tribe" in my experience emanate anger more times than not . Being embittered and feeding it with "angertainment" are a big part of the divisiveness that we see.
