Some people set the bar right so low we have a good chance of self-destructing as a species. I write not because I want attention, rather, because I am worried that we are going to destroy the tiny ball of rock we all depend on for survival. This planet is full of beauty that is taken for granted by a huge swath of my fellow sapiens.

I could not agree more. It's like we're all standing on a precipice together all sliding toward the edge and half the world's population is giving fist bumps - "Hey Let's Party - Ya Only live Once" with no thoughts about future generations.

True, true! Literature class used to be a place where lots of people would learn about paradox and complex characters. Not many T/F quizzes. Now, where does the message get through, I wonder?

It must be a challenging time to teach literature because a significant portion of us yearn for simplicity. But neither the world nor even we commoners are simple beings.. Complexity has almost become a four letter word. And that's a lot of scrunching.
