“Black” and “white” are simple,
but they typically betray reality.
Though I supposedly am one,
I’ve never actually met a white person.
I’ve never met a black person.
I’ve never met a red or a brown person.
Labels are quick and easy but so rarely helpful
unless our intent is to divide.
I’ve never seen a pitch black sky
Though I have been dazzled by pure white, fresh fallen snow.
I have never met a perfect person,
though I have seen flawless flowers and trees
I’ve not yet learned how to pick them apart
or label them,
as I have humans.
That I was taught at a young age.
Richard Rohr speaks much about duality vs Trinity of thought. Duality leads to black/white, yes/no, us/them thinking. Trinity leads to community, conversation, give and take. So not the (old white) Man Upstairs, but here with and within us the Lover, the Beloved, and the Love itself.
Good one
